WHAT'S MY COLLECTION WORTH?

Value of 1891 $1 Silver Certificates

Year: 1891
Type: Silver Certificate
Denomination: One Dollar Bill
Portrait: Martha Washington

Old $1 silver certificate bill with Matha Washington's face on it from 1891

Description: One dollar silver certificates from 1891 were the second $1 silver certificates printed by the United States. 1891 was the last United States bank note to feature a famous woman as a portrait on the bill.

This bill looks almost identical to the earlier dated 1886 $1 silver certificate; we wrote a price guide you can see if you want more information. We would love to see what you have, please contact us by email or phone today.

The 1891 $1 silver certificates have Martha Washington on the left-hand side of the bill.

As seen below, these bills have blue serial number ink and a red seal on the right side of the note. 1891 Martha notes only have two signature combination varieties: Tillman and Morgan or Rosecrans and Nebeker.

Value: The value of 1891 one dollar silver certificates is based upon condition and signature combination. If you’re not sure which type you have, we would be glad to help. These bills are often worth $100. However, we have paid over $500 for higher-grade examples.

While 1891 $1 silver certificates are more common, there are better condition examples continually becoming available. If you are fortunate to own a piece of history like this, we want to hear about it and help you with your decision about this bill.

If you want to talk to us about it, or are interested in selling the bill, please contact us today.
